The Care Center
Sisters of Faith Mentoring Program

SOF

Sisters of Faith is a mentoring program designed especially for girls in grades 4th through 6th. The program is designed to create a partnership between parents, teachers, counselors, and mentors that encourages each girl to understand their incredible potential and start making plans to realize that potential.

Girls in the program are paired with an adult female Christian mentor who will meet with the child at least twice a month. The purpose of the mentor-child relationship is to promote self-esteem, encourage positive life building behaviors including healthy relationships, and develop purposeful life goals such as a high school diploma. Sisters of Faith provides a trustworthy, caring adult, other than their parents, that the girls can talk to and learn from. Girls are invited to participate in the program upon recommendation of a teacher, a counselor, or at the request of parents.

Mentors are volunteers from the CARE Center. They have each undergone a background check through their church or through the CARE Center.  When with your child, our mentors follow suitable guidelines designed to ensure your child’s safety while participating in the mentoring program.

There are a wide range of potential mentor-child activities such as:

  • tutoring during school hours (coordinated with teachers),
  • enjoying lunch together during school hours,
  • volunteering together at the CARE Center or other community organizations,
  • participating in church activities, or
  • sharing in activities with the mentor’s family.
