Over the last couple of weeks I heard from so many that were not able to attend Becca Abercrombie's farewell party and, of course, I shared those sentiments with Becca. As you can imagine, she was extremely touched and blessed by so many who love her and wish her only the best. So, I will share some of the highlights of the evening with all of you. As we celebrated Becca's dedication, hard work and many accomplishments as Executive Director of the CARE Center over the last 4 years, there were many laughs, tears, and fond memories shared by many. Dinner was amazing, served by Old Vienna, and the setting was beautifully decorated thanks to Rivertree Church. During the presentations we were reminded of how Becca's focus for the CARE Center has been to do everything with Excellence. I know you will agree that Becca has done everything with excellence, which is why The CARE Center has developed the "Becca Abercrombie Excellence Award" ~ a college scholarship. The award presented reads: Becca’s focus on Excellence has allowed the CARE Center to shine like a beacon of hope for so many! To carry on her tradition of Excellence, for which she has laid a strong foundation, the CARE Center presents the Becca Abercrombie Excellence Award. This is a scholarship award for students who attend Madison County High School or New Hope High School and who also meet the following criterion: * Must have attended MCHS or NHHS 9th thru 12th grades * Must have achieved Honor Roll status each academic year * Must have maintained a good attendance record * Must submit an essay detailing how he/she plans to make their community better See flyer HERE. Application Form HERE. We will continue to accept contributions toward the scholarship through Spring 2011 (checks should be made out to the CARE Center with an annotation in the lower left hand corner "Becca Abercrombie Excellence Award"). As always, donations are considered tax deductible. Keep watching for more details surrounding this, including student applicant deadlines as well as the recipients of this Award, and awards presentation.
Your contribution may be dropped off at the CARE Center or mailed to: The CARE Center P.O. Box 25 Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763 Wrapping up the evening, Becca was extremely touched and honored by the development of this fund and the attendance of so many friendly faces and warm hearts who appreciate her God given talents to plead the cause of our neighbors and her steadfast faithfulness. We will miss Becca and I do not think there will ever be enough time or words that could express how we all feel for her and for what God has done through Becca, but her legacy lives on regardless. I am confident that she will not be more than a phone call away, a text, or even a volunteer companion to a future event. We are not letting her go completely and as it will be a transition for everyone, including she and I, I am confident that Becca will continue to engage all of us as God leads. In Him, Angela Hawke
