Southeastern Madison County is predominately rural - economically lower middle class to lower class, high school educated, skilled and semi-skilled laborers ... 32% have only a high school education or equivalent.

 

  • 35% of the families in these areas have a yearly income of less than $24,999

  • 24.8% of individuals age 65 and older are below the poverty level

  • 41% of children under the age of 5 in single mother families are below the poverty level

  • 57% of the children in the New Hope Elementary receive Free/Reduced Breakfast-Lunch assistance

  • 10% of our population is living below the poverty level

  • 14.7% of 11,653 children in our county are living in poverty. 

  •  Nearly 29% of our children are growing up in single-parent families with 57.7% of African American Children doing so. 

  • Our combined graduation rate for all three school districts is at 73% (1 in 4 youth do not graduate). 

  • Only 64% of our pregnant moms are receiving adequate prenatal care
