January 1, 2012MORROW FAMILY FUND: Many of you may already be aware of the recent tragedy suffered by local residents in our community (Sisters: Andrea & Amber Morrow & their friend Britney Mowry). Our hearts go out to both the Mowry Family and the Morrow Family as they grieve the loss of their daughters. Andrea Morrow & Britney Mowry both lost their lives as the Christmas season was coming to peak. Twin sister of Andrea, Amber Morrow remains in Huntsville Hospitals critical care unit. One of very own staff members, Angi Vroom (Grant Writer and Prayer Warrior) was on the scene of the accident. Read more about her experience and how God impacted her life that fateful day. Please prayerfully consider making a donation towards the Morrow Family Fund. When you support this fundraising effort with a donation of $20 or more, you will receive a 2012 Limited Edition Calendar featuring photographs by local artist Shen Wu Chang. His love is unfailing and as individual and unique as you are. He will meet you right where you are no matter what you may be going through. Nothing can separate us from God once we have accepted His salvation. His forgiveness is abundant and sufficient. It doesn’t matter whether we are rich or poor, tall or short, blonde or brunette, black or white. In fact, His love for us is unconditional and unlimited to those who believe. “No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us” 1 John 4:12. At Christmas time it is especially important to remember His unconditional love as we reflect on the true meaning of the Holy season and the sacrifices He made for us. He came to earth as man so He could not only experience life with us, but also to die for our sins. It is only through the grace of God that The CARE Center is able to continue to offer Hope and Opportunity to our neighbors. We are only able to press on with the mission to reduce poverty through support of people like you, our friends and Partners In Hope. May God’s love shine down on you as we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas season. As the hands and feet of Christ and with your help, we will continue to serve our neighbors with dignity, grace, and respect. Will you join us as a Partner in Hope? Your donation of $25, $50, $100, or more can make a difference. Secure online donations are available at our website and are tax deductible. November 10, 2011Thoughts of Thanksgiving begin to stir up memories of holiday celebrations and traditions with the turning color of leaves on the trees. In my family, it is the kitchen that tends to be a central location for our rituals and traditions. It is a place to gather and lovingly create delicious delicacies that will melt in your mouth. The smells that drift into other rooms are a friendly reminder of the care that goes into each morsel. Around our table we share what we are thankful for followed by a blessing and of course we are challenged to keep from over-indulging. Sound familiar? Others are not as fortunate to find themselves around a family table let alone a hot meal. Imagine the instability of having to move from place to place on a regular basis due to under-employment circumstances. This crisis turns into a need to survive each moment and may sound like a Third World Country issue, however this occurs in our back yard every day. Food security for our neighbors is on the rise as we watch trends increase with new families presenting to the food pantry each week. Will you join us in the fight against hunger as we continue to press on with the CARE Center’s mission: to reduce poverty through education initiatives, employment resources, recovery programs, and emergency services. Remember, when you feed a child, you are fueling their hunger to learn. 2 Corinthians 3:6 “He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.” Are you a Federal Employee? AA meets every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at 7pm in the Discovery Center (5439 Main Drive) October 7, 2011Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Geoffrey Canada conference held at the VBC, during his visit to Huntsville. You will recall his plea to reform schools across our nation if you have seen the movie “Waiting for Superman”. Due to circumstances that were out of his control (such as the color of his skin, single mom, low income, and immediate area of residence), society, tax payers, and leaders set his path of few options. Still, Geoffrey would conquer the ill-fated journey to fight for his future; to fight for hope for himself as well as others. While Geoffrey sheds light on the dismay of inner-city struggles, there are similar challenges in rural populations as well. What sets a successful student apart from one that is struggling? A society that cares, tax payers who are bold enough to give voice to their concern, legislation that is willing to take a stand for education. Development is needed for the children across our country, but also for society as a whole, our future is riding on it. The CARE Center recognizes the faces of superhero’s each day. It is the dedicated teacher, tutors who are partnered with teachers and volunteers who encourage students as lunch buddies or mentors with their time and talents. Community heroes understand the value of a kind word, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness. There is no experience necessary, but in return they offer hope, faith, and love. Partner with a child today and become their champion, their Superhero, and renew their spirit of hope. Let them see Jesus shine through you! Ps 16:3 “The godly people in the land are my true heroes! “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 Notable Quote: We see Jesus in the Gospels moving about and curing people of all kinds of sicknesses and issues. But He never brought the cure without first bringing care into the situation. We see him weeping before raising Lazarus and having compassion on the widow in Nain before raising her son and returning him to her. The cure that Jesus offered (and still offers) is rooted in and springs forth from care. We support The CARE Center because we see the care of Christ being made manifest through the staff and volunteers as they come alongside people from our community. Anywhere Christ's care is present, His cure will surely follow. D. Circumstances occur regardless of our sure-fire plan to ‘out-do’ the unknown. While those plans may soften a major-blow there are situations that strike hard and fast and without warning causing a crippling disruption to what would otherwise be normal. Many of us think we are in control of the events in our life, but that idea could not be further from the truth. A perfect example includes the events of September 11th. The mere mention of this date brings back distinct memories as if it occurred yesterday. It’s hard to believe that it was 10 years ago that we all stood in awe as tragedy unfolded before our eyes on that fateful day; a day that brought our nation to its knees resulting in a domino effect of unexpected change. Our nation continues to suffer from the effects of that of that day with sky-high unemployment rates, depleted savings and retirement accounts, increased suicide rates, and the list goes on. Recently, I read about how some people who have faced tragedy in more recent years refer to their suffering as their “9/11” (e.g. hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, & floods). The under-resourced that the CARE Center serves are often overwhelmed with events that bring them to their knees (e.g. health crisis, financial instability, unemployment, and food security). The CARE Center believes in providing opportunity to those who combat the storms of life by offering resources that may help to put them back on their feet. We know that God is ultimately the one in control and who brings us out of tragedy through His grace. I pray that you let His light shine through you as you step out on faith to aid others during their time of need, their “9/11”. Matt 11:30 “For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."
